About

October 11, 1987 - Hundreds of thousands of people rallied in the Second National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay rights, a turning point in the fight for equality.

Amid the AIDS pandemic and the landmark Supreme Court decision Bowers v. Hardwick, which upheld a Georgia law criminalizing consensual sodomy, organizers from across the United States planned six days of events to raise awareness for issues of LGBT rights. Among the group’s seven-part platform were demands for legal recognition of same-sex relationships and funding for AIDS care and prevention.
